Reverse flow Verses Tuning Plates

Reverse flow Verses Tuning Plates A steady temperature is important in making quality BBQ. Anyone who has ever purchased a offset BBQ Pit will quickly notice after the first use. A hot spot and A cold spot. Due to the fire box on one side rendering the space closes to the fire box useless This problem is exacerbated on larger BBQ smokers do to the traveling of the hot air and smoke threw the cooking chamber.   There are two popular ways of creating a more even temperature. Reverse flow and tuning plates. Revers flow The first thing that you notice on A reverse flow BBQ Pit is That the stack is on the fire box end.  When you open the Pit you will see below the grades A plate running from the fire box end to the opposite end with a opening. As the fire burns in the fire box Hot air is drawn threw the cooking chamber heating the plate as it travels. When it reaches the end it goes up and to the stack.<img class=”aligncenter size-medium wp-image-885″ title=”5140600_orig” src=”http://www.zaksmoker.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/5140600_orig-300×168.png” alt=”” width=”300″ height=”168″ />     I have used this type of BBQ pit before and I was unsatisfied with the performance the temperature seemed to be close to the same, when looking at the temp gauge poisoned on the left and right side but when I placed A temp gauge inside and pensioned it in different spots wow 60 deg difference in some places. There is a common practice among some pit builders strategically placing temperature gauges high and away from the meat in places where...

insulated smoker

Zak’s Insulated BBQ Smokers   If you are trying to get more out of you BBQ smoker, insulated BBQ smokers really helps. There is allot of misconception on why they are so efficient, allowing longer cook time less wood and a steadier temperature as well as the blue smoke that pit masters  try to obtain. Why insulated BBQ smokers work so well   Insulated fire boxes allow temperature to reach of 700 to 900 degrees and hold it. At that temperature wood can fully burn. The benefit of this is that smoke traveling through the pit is cleanly burned; no unburned wood tainting your meat and building up creosote. Unlike BBQ smokers that are not insulated. BBQ Heat Transfer In the fire box of a Isolated BBQ Smoker should have thinner gauge steel like 1/8 or 3/16 this allows the heat to get out of the fire box to the cooking chamber. Thickness of the steel allows the heat to transfer. Insulation allows a  higher temperatures it goes  hand and hand to make A pit perform well. <img class=”aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1021″ title=”003″ src=”http://www.zaksmoker.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/003-300×225.jpg” alt=”” width=”300″ height=”225″ /> If you want a hand built BBQ Smoker and an added insulated fire box give us a call or...

Smoker tuning plates Explained

BBQ Smoker Tuning Plates A steady temperature is important for Smoker tuning plates in helping to make a quality BBQ. Anyone who has ever purchased an offset custom BBQ Pit without smoker tuning plates will quickly notice after the first use a hot spot and cold spot. Due to the fire box on one side, rendering the space closes to the fire box useless this problem is exacerbated on larger BBQ Pits do to the traveling of the hot air and smoke going through the cooking chamber. After opening the door looking through the cooking grade you will see plates with tightened bolts, this allows the ability to adjust or tune the plates, creating smaller gaps closer to the fire box and larger gaps farther away to even out the heat and bolt to tighten on trailer mounted custom BBQ Pits. Making Perfect Tuning Plates My first experience using smoker tuning plates, I was impressed .The progressively opening plates allow the heat to come out evenly. On a well-designed BBQ pit with tuning plates, a small degree temperature difference can be obtained. Load it up with whatever meat you want and take it off at the same time; no more moving your food around from hot spot to cold spot to get it done. You can also create a cold spot to just keep food at warming temperature by adjusting the plates for cleaning; just remove the plate.  If you are into BBQ competitions, catering or just back yard BBQing with the family, tuning plates are the way to go. Vertical Custom BBQ Pit

Vertical Custom BBQ Pit This BBQ smoker was Built for Russian customer. He was looking for some thing that could be used in compact spaces were conventional off set BBQ Pits would not fit. We took on the task to build it. we wanted to to make it efficient hold temp easy to use. Challenge was compact size. We decided to design A charcoal basket that would burn for steady temp for three to for hours. So we put separation plates in to A charcoal Basket to allow the charcoal chunks to burn in A zig zag pattern like A snake. after A little trial and error we were getting six hours!! out of the charcoal basket. mission accomplished We were vary proud of that. The other challenge in A vertical BBQ pit was that the drippings of the food tended to put the fire out and give it A bad taste in the BBQ. So we designed  A deflector plat that wood catch all the drippings and also enabled the cooking space to cook indirectly and eliminating flame charring. Turned out to be A great cooker. with most cooks you would only need to load the charcoal basket one time and and the mesquite charcoal chunks gave the BBQ great flavor. if you like this cooker contact us 20”wide/40” Tall 122 creek Drive Whitney TX...
